HOOKED TAG

Unique ID: WILT-743F64

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

16th century incomplete copper alloy silvered/ ?tinned trefoliate dress hook, missing its (separately attached) hook. Each of the three roundels is decorated with three large filigree circles within which is a pellet, while around it more pellets and smaller filigree circles. At the centre is a placing for a larger pellet, which is now missing. The outside edge or backplate on which the roundels lie, is cut to give the impression of petals. Its underside, which retains mush of the silvering/ ?tinning has a long attachment loop (each end of which appears to come from between the backplate and roundels) and the remains of the missing hook, ?soldered in place.
Cf The Treasure Annual Report 2001 no.148 from Gooderstone, Norfolk (an example very similar in silver gilt).
It measures 21.4 (incomplete length) x 21.2 x (max)8.6mm and weighs 3.53g.
