A copper alloy Early Medieval brooch. It is the central part of a small-long brooch which is incomplete, the head and foot being missing. The bow has a high dome and is faceted, with a central longitudinal groove. The flat panel below the dome is plain, and there are three lines of transverse moulding separating the panel from the top of the foot which is starting to splay. The brooch has broken off (not a fresh break) 8.30mm from the moulding. The catch plate is complete, running between the base of the bow and the top of the foot. The brooch is 44.19mm long and 15.26mm wide. It weighs 8.80g.
Brooches of this type date to the 5th-6th centuries. An example of a similar brooch is illustrated in West 1998, fig 15, no.3.
