Roman copper alloy bow brooch, 25mm long, 27mm wide and a weight of 9.55grams. The brooch is in a fair condition with a brown patina and patches of green corrosion. The brooch has half of its spring intact which has 6 coils. The spring mechanism is unusual as it sits proud of the slightly curved wings and is attached by being thread through a small hole in a solid, rectangular sectioned, semi-circular shaped, protrusion which emerges from the bow. This protrusion becomes the 'spine' running down the bow and is decorated with indented rectangles. The sides of the bow, which has a circular section, are decorated with diagonal incised lines running its length. The open wings have a slight curved depression near their ends, but have no other obvious decoration. The pin, base of the bow and the catchplate are missing.
