The buckle frame is made from cast copper alloy. It measures 15.6mm in length from side edge to side edge. The width from the apex of the loop to the strap bar (including pin) is 14.2mm and its weight is 1.63g. The object is complete.

In plan the frame is sub-oval shaped. The loop is sub-oval in cross-section and is widest at the apex which is 6.4mm wide and 2.7mm thick. The width of the loop gradually tapers inwards towards the strap bar. The thickness of the loop however, is approximately the same throughout. In section the frame is flat. The strap bar is narrowed but not offset and is sub-oval in cross section.

The pin is sub-rectangular in section and has been cast. A sub-rectangular shaped portion of the pin is curled around the strap bar, while the pin terminal protrudes to rest on the loop. The pin has been damaged and is now bent. The strap bar terminals are decorated with a single knop

The buckle and pin are heavily corroded and in a very poor condition. The buckle and the pin are a dark matt brown colour. Green and red patches on the front and reverse of the buckle indicate signs of active copper corrosion.

Egan and Pritchard illustrate an example which is similar to the recorded buckle (Egan, G and Pritchard, F. 1991 Medieval Finds From Excavations in London: 3. Dress Accessories c.1150 – c.1450, HMSO, London, fig.42; no. 274). The illustrated example, however, is lacking the knops of the recorded object. These types of buckles are thought to date to the 12th to 14th centuries.
