A copper alloy medieval brooch. It is annular, with an external diameter of about 54.25mm. As it has snapped at one point an exact measurement or internal diameter cannot be taken. The frame itself is flat and is 7,59mm in width, and the object weighs 18.03g. There is a narrow pin constriction, but no pin, and on the opposite side of the frame, on the outer edge, is a small decorative triangular protrusion, 9.50mm in length, with a rounded terminal knop. The frame has snapped and been bent back, close to this terminal, at the point where the pin rest would be expected to occur.
The surface is decorated with a simple chevron pattern, and there are traces of gilding on the pin constriction, and on the outer edge of the frame, near the terminal knop.
Although an exact parallel has not been found, this brooch has obvious similarities with the example in Margeson 1993, p16, no. 60.
