Incomplete medieval copper-alloy annular brooch, 35mm in diameter and 3mm thick. The object is in a fair condition with a brownish patina and weighs 4.95g. The frame is circular, flat on both sides, and 7mm wide. The upper surface is decorated with a narrow incised groove around either edge, forming a border which contains an inscription in well-spaced black-letter script. The brooch is missing about one third of its circumference, as well as its pin and any pin hole or constriction, although a small projection at the end of the inscription (after 'rex') may be the remains of a constriction.
The inscription has been read by Malcom Jones, and reads [ihesus] naza * ren * rex (Jesus of Nazareth King). The stars between the letters are four-pointed diagonal crosses with wavy arms. The style of the lettering indicates a late 14th- or 15th-century date.
