STUD

Unique ID: WAW-1F99A4

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

An incomplete Roman cast copper alloy stud or mount. Originally the stud head was square in plan, however, approximately a third of the head is missing. The break is not recent. The upper face of the head is moulded. In profile the head forms two convex elements in a row, separated by a small triangular ridge. The reverse of the mount is hollow behind the semi-circular portions of the head. In the centre of the reverse is an integral shank which is circular in section and is incomplete. The break does not appear to be recent. The surface of the object is abraded, and has traces of a heavy dark grey patina. Where the abrasion has occurred the surface is lightly pitted and is mid grey/green. The mount is 22.06mm long, 21.34mm wide and 9.26mm thick. It weighs 7.1g.
