An incomplete cast copper alloy mount or fitting, dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 1600 - 1700).
The mount is sub-pentagonal in shape and rectangular in cross section. It has 3 small sides and then two longer sides forming a rounded point. The front rounded end is bent outwards. The reverse is flat and contains an integral pointed lug facing downwards. No decoration is present.
The mount is a mid green to brown colour, with an even surface patina.
Measurements: length 19.8mm, maximum width 14mm, thickness of plate 1.8mm, thickness including lug 5.9mm, weight 2 grams.
Read, B (2016) dates these mounts with integral pointed lugs to the 17th century. Similar examples can be seen on p.42.
