An ornate cast copper alloy double loop buckle, dating from the seventeeth or early eighteenth century. The frame is broadly rectangular, but above and below the narrowed strap bar the sides are trefoil. There is a external fleur-de-lys moulding at each end of the strap bar and a trilobed knop engraved with a rosette or flower at both ends of the frame. The pin, which is broken, has been curved around the strap bar to form a loop. A very similar buckle can be seen in Whitehead's 'Buckles 1250-1800' (1996, p. 71, no. 444). This example has been dated between c. 1600 and 1720.
