An early-medieval silver penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-66), 'small flan' type (North 818; BMC ii; Hild. B) dating to c.AD1048-50 (Naismith's revised dating: late 1040s), moneyer: Cild, mint: Bedwyn (Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire). Refs: North 1994: 179; Naismith 2017: table 17.
Notes:
The mint at Bedwyn was only open during the reign of Edward the Confessor with a single moneyer, Cild, striking coin there. Bedwyn (Great Bedwyn in Wiltshire) was a royal estate. This is the first example of a coin from the mint to be recorded by the PAS.
