FURNITURE FITTING

Unique ID: WAW-A498FE

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete, extremely worn, copper alloy object, possibly a furniture fitting of Post Medieval date (c. AD 1600-1800).

The object has a pointed oval cross section and an irregular shape in both profile and plan. The top of the object has a knop that is roughly semi-circular in plan and 7.25mm wide and 5.79mm thick at the bottom. Beneath this is a hexagonal shaped section that starts at 6.69mm wide and 5.45mm thick, expands to 10.72mm wide 9.53mm thick, and then contracts to 6.13mm wide  and 4.92mm thick at the bottom. Underneath this are three trapezoidal sections, each of increasing size. The first starts at 6.13mm wide and 4.92mm thick and expands to 8.62mm wide and 6.69mm thick. The second starts at 7.92mm wide and 6.47mm thick and expands to 10.54mm wide and 7.93mm thick. The third starts at 9.08mm wide and 6.87mm thick and expands to 11.86mm wide and 8.32mm thick. The bottom of the object is flat, but the object is bent slightly forwards. There are some remnants of moulded radiating ribs on the front of the object, notably at the top of the hexagonal section and the second trapezoidal section near the bottom, but there are no other signs of decoration. The object has a light green patina and has noticeable chips missing, likely due to post depositional abrasion.
