An incomplete, cast, copper alloy mount or binding strip possibly from a casket or box probably of Post Medieval date c. AD1600-1800.
The mount is slightly bent and comprises a flat narrow copper alloy strip with invected edges and worn breaks at each end. The upper surface is decorated in cast, moulded relief comprising a pair of curvilinear borders (approximately 3.5mm wide), that undulate to each opposing edge and interlock creating the invected external edges of the plate. Within each loop is a four petalled flower with central pellet. There are two rivet holes within two alternate loops of the plate drilled through the petals of the flowers. The reverse if flat and plain and the object has a mid brown patina.
Measurements: length: 80.58mm; width: 16.43mm; thickness; 2.71mm and weight: 20.42g.
A mount with a similar undulating moulded pattern is recorded as: SUSS-CACF65 dating to the 18th century.
