A copper alloy middle Anglo-Saxon ansate brooch of Weetch type II.Aiii. This brooch is complete and has an arched bow and two oval terminals. It measures 38.2mm in length, each terminal is c. 10.4mm in width, and the bow is 3.8mm in width. The front of the terminals are decorated with cross-hatched grooves. On the back face one terminal has a catchplate projecting from its centre and the other has a single pin lug, no trace of the pin survives.
Although ansate brooches can be earlier on the continent, in England they date from the 8th to 10th centuries.
