A group of 20 sherds of Coal Measures medieval pottery. These fragments are of the 'coal measures purple' type. The clay fabric is fairly coarse and is mid grey to purple in colour with small, gritty coal inclusions. A few sherds have a patchy dark green or brown glaze. This type of functional, utilitarian pottery was produced at a number of production centres, including Firsby in the Doncaster area, and was manufactured during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
