A complete Medieval or Post-Medieval copper-alloy rivet for repairing metal vessels dating to c. AD 1450-1800. Formed from a triangular piece of sheet metal, it has been rolled into a cone with a sharp point with unsoldered lapped seam and would have been hammered into wood. This action of hammering would have closed the open wider end.
Dimensions: length: 64.6mm; width: 10.7mm; weight: 8.56g.

Egan (2005:101) suggests that these were a later form of rivet, which took over from the Medieval folded staples in the late 15th to the mid to late 16th century and continued in use into the 18th century.
