An incomplete copper alloy strap fitting / belt hanger, of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1600).

The strap fitting consist of a sub triangular mount. In plan the mount is comprised of a tapering rectangle with an inward facing chevron shape at one end and a narrowed rectangular backward looping closed hook at the other. The hook is incomplete. The main body has two circular rivet holes on its central axis. The rivet holes have an internal diameter of 2.2 mm. The upper face of the mount has rounded edges and the reverse face is slightly dished.

The strap fitting measures 35.5 mm in length, a maximum width of 12.1 mm and is 9.2 mm thick. The metal is 1.9 mm thick. it weighs 2.2 g.

The strap fittings are a dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

Strap fittings / belt hangers of this style are typically considered to be part of sword belt sets and of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1600).
