An incomplete copper alloy seal top spoon finial of Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1600).
Around 25% of the spoon is present, consisting of the baluster finial only. The finial has a flattened disc top. Beneath the seal top, the stem narrows before expanding into a circular collar decorated by vertical grooves. Then the stem narrows again prior to expanding to a grooved teardrop shape. An old patinated break is present.
It measures 33.7 mm in length, 14.3 mm diameter at the top and the break has a diameter of 4.3 mm. It weighs 9.6 g.
The spoon finial is a mid to dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina.
Spoons with this type of finial are typically of 16th Century dating. A more complete example, 2015T20 (GLO-FE7D79) found in Gloucestershire, still bears makers marks which can more accurately date it to 1592 to 1593. 2016T83 (ESS-15D08E) is another example of the finial top.
