A complete copper alloy coin weight for gold crown of the double rose coin, made in Antwerp and dating to c.AD 1581 on the weight
The weight is square in plan and slightly trapezoidal in cross section, the lower surface being wider and longer than the upper surface.. The obverse depicts a hand in the centre (the mark of Antwerp) flanked by the initials R and I. The reverse has a floral design in a crowned shield with the year 1581 above the design although this is worn and could also read 1881.
The coin weight is medium brown colour.
The weight is 15mm long, 14.6mm wide, 2.1mm thick and weighs 2.65 grams
Withers and Withers (2011: 72) list a similar coin weight with the same initials and design dating to 1580 and 1575.
