An incomplete copper alloy strap plate or strap end of the Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1200 - c. AD 1500.
Around 50% of the plate is present, consisting an incomplete folded sheet of copper alloy metal. Neither top or bottom plate are complete, the only original edge is the fold. There is no pin slot, nor has it been recessed for the buckle frame. One attachment rivet hole is present, just below the folded edge. It has an internal diameter of 1.3 mm. No decoration is present on either surface.
The strap plate measures 25.8 mm in length and is 18.0 mm wide. It has a thickness of 2.8 mm and weighs 2.0 g.
The strap plate is a mid to dark green in colour and has an even surface patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
Plenty of strap plates have been recorded on the PAS database. This artefact is probably that of a strap plate from a buckle but could also be part of a strap end.
