Medieval copper alloy single loop oval buckle and plate. The buckle has an externally C-shaped frame with an internally oval loop, offset and narrowed strap bar. The slender triangular wrap-around pin is still in situ. The rectangular plate is separate from the frame and folds back on itself around the strap bar. At the fold the corners and the central notch of the plate are cut away to accommodate the buckle frame and pin respectively. The back side of the plate is narrower and slightly shorter than the front but at least some of this is due to damage. On the front face there are 5 rivets, 2 are set transversely at either end and the remaining singleton is placed in the middle. There are substantial remains of gilding on the front face, particularly around the rivet holes. SOM-0EB96C shows a related style as does NMS-8185B1. Circa AD1150-1350.
