An incomplete copper alloy Medieval to Post Medieval annular buckle dating c. 1350-1600 AD.
The plain, circular frame has bevelled edges with a central bar. A short section of the frame is missing adjacent to the central bar. The copper alloy wire pin flattens where it is wrapped around the central bar. The object has a mid green patina.
Measurements: diameter: 23.93mm; width of frame: 3.25mm; thickness of frame: 2.72mm and weight: 2.87g.
Similar examples are shown in Whitehead, Buckles 1250-1800 (2003) p.44-45 dating c. 1350-1650. Egan and Pritchard (2002) illustrate a similar but smaller copper alloy buckle with a plain circular frame and a central bar on p.66, fig.40, no.214, which was found in a context dated from c.1350-1400. Other examples on the database include: CORN-4612F7 and SUR-538C44.
