An incomplete cast copper alloy double-loop asymmetrical buckle dating to the Post Medieval period c. 1575-1700.
Only one loop of the frame remains which is D-shaped with a leaf-shaped knop on the outer edge of the curved loop. The knop has a central groove and oblique moulded grooves emanating from the longitudinal groove, imitating the veins of a leaf. On either end of the pin bar are narrow ridged projections with worn breaks. The pin is missing. The frame has a bevelled internal edge and a flat base so that it is triangular in section. The buckle has a green patina, with patches of iron oxide on the pin bar, suggesting that the pin was probably made of iron.
Measurements: length: 22.25mm; width: 14.74mm; thickness: 2.60mm and weight: 1.92g.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates similar buckles with moulded knops on page 92, nos. 581-582, which are dated from c.1575 -1700.
