A complete, though slightly worn, medieval silver hammered halfpenny of King Robert I (the Bruce) of Scotland (AD 1306-1329). Class I (Spink S5077), dating to c.1318-29. Ref: Spink 2015, 22.

Obverse: Crowned bust of king facing left, holding sceptre in front (to left). 

Obverse inscription: ROBERTVS . DEI . GR[A].

Reverse: Long cross pattée quartering and dividing the legend; in second and forth quarters are two mullets of five points.

Reverse inscription: S[...] / [T]OR / VMR / EX+.

It measures 14.52mm in diameter, 0.96mm in thickness, and weighs 0.65g. Die Axis: 12 o'clock.

Notes:

Coins of Robert the Bruce are not common finds, and halfpennies and farthings are especially rare. The PAS has (to date) recorded six other halfpennies of Robert: SF15 from Suffolk, NCL-4B1DA6 from Yorkshire, WMID-DE4A13 from Staffordshire, NLM-AB8163 from Lincolnshire, and PUBLIC-6CB533 from Kent, LANCUM-B09BB2 from Cumbria.
