A square of gold or gilded white metal. One edge has three parallel lines, the opposite edge with five parallel lines. There are two impressions in the 'front' face: an isosceles triangle across the five parallel lines (right) which indents to the reverse face, and a vertical rectangle from top to bottom (left) which does not indent to the reverse. The reverse is plain apart from the indented triangular shape pressed from the front face. Date and function uncertain. Reminiscent of early medieval mounts or brooch element, but no match found. All surfaces appear a gold colour but with patches of dark brown/black which may be a lacquer (pers. comm. Claire Woodhead, Conservator). On one edge a modern nick reveals possible silver/white metal underneath. There is no evidence of copper alloy staining or decay.
Width (parallel lines running horizontally): 13.05mm
