An incomplete Roman copper-alloy T-shaped hinged brooch of Hull T133 dating c. AD 43-150.

The wings are tubular with a single decorative groove on the front surface at the terminal ends. On the reverse side is  a rectangular slot where the intact copper alloy axis bar is visible. One wing is slightly crushed. The bow extends from the top of the wings and tapers to a worn break. The bow is D-shaped in cross-section and triangular in plan and decorated with vertical moulded ribs creating a central concave panel 2.15mm wide bordered by a pair of vertical ribs. These are flanked by a further rib on each side tapering towards the break and finally a further shorter rib on each side terminating below the wings and expanding the bow at the head.  At the end of the surviving bow, just above the break is a transverse groove forming the base of the grooved panel. The bow forms a gentle arched profile and is plain on the reverse. There are traces of silvery white metal or tinning on all surfaces of the brooch which has a green patina.

Measurements: length: 26.47mm; total width at wings: 29.01mm; width of bow: 13.15mm to 5.28mm; thickness of bow: 2.52mm and weight: 5.15g.
