A complete copper alloy penannular brooch of an enamelled zoomorphic F1 Type.
The frame is circular in cross-section and decorated with a series of close-set shallow rings that cover the length of the frame, although some sections appear to be absent either through wear or corrosion. The terminal is expanded into a sub-triangular block that is highly decorated to form a stylised head of a beast that has an open mouth that grips the end of the frame. The beast has a narrow snout into which the frame is inserted; behind, the head expands to form a sub-rectangular block where angled lines on the two forward corners help to define the eyes, with further angle lines dividing the rear corners helping to outline the ears. A final central slot runs down the centre of the head
The pin is complete; this has a simple circular cross-section shaft mounted to the frame via a large annular cylinder that is decorated with three cylindrical ridges
A large size and zoomorphic terminals are characteristic of Booth's type F, which dates to c. 400-700 AD (Booth 2014, 195). Other examples are LEIC-70D1A5, BUC-BCE83B, FAKL-A05256, LEIC-D826B1 and FAKL-0F6995
