A fragment of a copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The fragment is D-shaped in cross-section with slightly bevelled edges on both faces. It expands slightly towards one end and is slightly curved in profile. It has a fine green and redish patina and the break across either end is fairly fresh.
The object is too incomplete to identify, but the most likely possiblity is a Post Medieval trigger or trigger guard or similar fitting from a musket or similar firearm. Compare SUR-427B01 and DUR-18B995. The tactile nature and smooth curve makes it feel like it was intended to rest a finger on. It could also be part of a door latch or furniture handle, but there are no signed of attachment at the end, suggesting it is the terminal of an object.
