A complete tin alloy Button of Medieval to Post-Medieval date (AD 1200-1600). The object is a globular button, of composite form, and is bi-convex with a central rectangular aperture where a separate wire loop, now missing, would have projected from the back of the object.
Height: 7.29mm, Diameter: 9.60mm, Weight: 2.8g
The metal is grey in colour due to polished tin surface or high tin content.
Similar buttons have been found in archaeological contexts dated to the 13th and 14th centuries, although this style did continue into at least the early post-medieval period (Read 2010, 26-7).
