An incomplete medieval silver penny of William I (1066-87), 'canopy type' (North 843; BMC iii) dating to c.AD 1070-72, moneyer: Colbegen, mint: Derby. Ref: North 1994: 191.

The coin is incomplete, missing around a third of the outer circle, broken along an irregular fracture line on the inner circle.

Notes:

Coins from the mint at Derby are rare finds, the PAS recording only one other Norman coin from the city (BH-FD4CD7).
