Coper alloy Roman finger ring fragment dating to the period c. AD 45 - 300.
The ring has a large circular bezel. The hoop is missing. The bezel is decorated with recessed cells formed from arcs which create a cruciform or star effect with a circular hub. The inner cell created by the arcs contains red enamel, the hub and the outer cells are filled with a pale material, probably degraded enamel, possibly blue although the original colour is difficult to determine. The shoulders are undecorated and taper to form the hoop, which is now missing, the shoulders terminating after 9 mm. The back of the bezel appears to be infilled with wax. This may have been a repair or adjustment in antiquity.
The bezel measures 20 mm diameter and is 4 mm thick. The object weighs 9.7 g.
