A cast lead spindle whorl of Early Medieval date, about AD 700 - 850. It conforms most closely to Walton Rogers form A2 (Walton Rogers 2007, pp. 24-25, fig 2.18), as it has two flat faces of unequal size. The sides are angled, making it near conical. Walton Rogers dates whorls of this shape from between AD 700 - 1100, but the aperture of 6.0mm in diameter, suggests AD 700 - 850 might be most likely. The whorl is undecorated and has an overall pale cream patina.

Measurements are; diameter max 22.7mm to diameter 12.1mm, thickness 11.4mm and weight 29.40g.  There is a perforation in the centre of the main body of the object of 6.0mm in diameter.

Class: Walton Rogers form A2
