A cast copper alloy buckle of medieval (c. 12th-13th century) date. The frame is oval, with a pointed knop extending from the front edge. This may be zoomorphic in form, however surface loss from corrosion makes this unclear. The rear edge of the frame has a pin hole, infilled with the rusted remnants of an iron pin and flanked by small pointed knops. There is a constricted neck between the frame and the body of the plate with concave sides; behind this the plate is sub rectangular, with a single rivet hole on the (now broken) rear edge and a trapezoidal panel of moulded decoration in the middle. The nature of the decoration is unclear due to corrosion. The reverse of the plate has a lip to accomodate the strap and the seperate rear plate, now missing.
