Complete copper alloy Medieval open-top or ring-type thimble with longitudinal overlapped un-scarfed seam. The thimble has near vertical sides with hand-punched pits crudely set in columns. Narrow plain bands top and bottom, delineated by circumferential grooves. Adjacent to the seam is a faint trace of surface whitemetal colouration, possibly suggesting the seam was originally soldered. Similar thimbles can be seen in Read, B. Metal Sewing-Thimbles Found in Britain (2018) p8-p11. Circa early 13th- mid 15th C.
