A Medieval, gold gem-set gold finger ring. This has a large bezel that is oval in plan with a rounded top red stone mounted in the centre. In profile the bezel is biconical with the lower section possessing a longer and more pointed frame than its upper counterpart. Flanking the sides of the bezel are thin rectangular tabs that led to the hoop.  The hoop is highly decorated around its entire length, and consist of firstly a diamond shaped panel with elongated base that is engraved with a cross which flanks the bezel.  Running around the outside of the hoop are eleven oval panes, each with chamfered ends that ornamented with engraved striations and divided from its neighbour by a transverse band.

The oval panels are each engraved with a letter spelling the inscription IO SVI CI EN LI. This is an incomplete spelling of a fairly common inscription which would read + IO SVI CI EN LIV DAMI "I am here in place of a 'friend'

This inscription is more commonly found on Annular brooches to the 13th to 14th centuries, such as (WMID-962ED9) discovered in Norfolk, (NMGW-C8B7F2) discovered in Shropshire and (IOW-B09925) discovered on the Isle of Wight. Egan and Pritchard (1991) illustrate a silver example on page 254 which is dated to circa AD 1350-1400. Also, a gold stirrup type ringer ring with the inscription + IO SVI EI EN is recorded at YORYM-AA837B (2018 T97).

The shape of the bezel is also a common form that is seen o gold finger ring of the 14th century, see GLO-034EC1 (2021 T244), KENT-D6A961 (2018T945) and DOR-FE6AA1 (2020T914).
