An early medieval penny of Eadred (946-55), Two-Line/Horizontal type (HT1; North 706), moneyer: Eferulf/Eoferulf, 'Midlands & South style'. Ref: North 1994: 141; Blunt et al 1989: 139.
The coin is in fair condition, chipped around much of the edge and a part of the coin, roughly the width of the outer circle, has been bent at right angles to the rest of the coin. The coin was poorly struck with the centres on both obverse and reverse noticeably fainter than the rest of the field, and this is especially visible on the reverse where the central cross is barely visible.
Notes:
Coins of Eadred are rare stray finds, and this is only the 14th example recorded by the PAS and the first from the county.
