A complete copper alloy hooked strap fitting, of Post Medieval dating (17th Century AD)
The strap fitting was cast in one piece, and a separate piece of copper alloy sheet metal was attached to the reverse. It consists of an oval plate. A rounded attachment knop is present at one end. A slightly projecting ridged collar is present on the other side, above a a forward facing closed butted blunt hook. The reverse is plain and undecorated. Iron corrosion products are present, suggesting the attachment rivets were made from iron.
The strap fitting measures 61.1 mm in length, 26.8 mm wide and 9.3 mm thick. It weighs 28.4 grams.
The strap fitting is a dark green colour, with an even surface patina.
Similar strap fittings have been recorded on the PAS database including CORN-FB7632, SWYOR-08E514, SOM-B652E1, GLO-ABA6C4, SOM-DFC8E6, SWYOR-F36B97 and FAKL-352D42.
