A late Medieval to Post-Medieval lead alloy vessel, dating to AD 1400 - 1700. Possibly a bird feeder. The vessel is complete though now flattened. It has a flat, D shaped base and vertical sides which then flare at the top.

Measurements: Height, 59.91mm; Width, 75.04; Thickness, 4.86mm; Weight, 101.23g

A number of similar items, also thought to have been bird feeders are recorded on the database: compare for example records NLM-5B5E86 and GAT-193786. See Egan 2005 ("Material Culture in London in an Age of Transition", Museum of London) p128-9 for similar items identified as bird feeders from excavated examples and contemporary illustrations. Egan states that these were used for holding water, green plants or seed for caged birds, and that "decorated troughs seem to date from the late 15th/16th centuries and later, while plainer versions continue at least until the late 17th century".
