A complete copper alloy annular buckle dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1350-1400). The buckle has a circular frame in plan and oval in cross-section, with pin retained. The pin, which is square in section, is made of one piece looped around the frame at one end and terminating in a tapered, rounded tip. The frame is undecorated and the pin has a triple-lined collar just before the loop. The object has a mid-green patina.
Comparable examples can been seen in Griffiths et. al (2007: 87) no. 430; and Egan and Pritchard (2002: 58) no. 32. Similar examples have also been noted as brooches, however Egan and Pritchard (ibid: 65) state that 'A constriction on a single frame to limit the movement of the pin is generally an indication of a brooch rather than a buckle', therefore, owing to the lack of constriction the present example is likely a buckle rather than a brooch.
