BOW BROOCH

Unique ID: SF-5C6666

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper-alloy brooch, Colchester derivative type with rear hook spring attachment. Missing the spring and pin; some loss of surface and slight damge to the catchplate. The back of the wings have corrosion products suggesting there may have been solder holding the spring the full width. The wings have single grooves at the terminals. The bow has a slightly convex back and rounded front with a central rib; it tapers to a blunt point. Width 31mm, length 45mm. Similar to an example from Pakenham, Suffolk (PKM 005 3129) but less angular in bow shape and profile. The rear hook type is East Anglian and early.

Class: Colchester derivative (rear hook)
