MOUNT

Unique ID: NMS-839308

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Incomplete Roman copper alloy mount from a harness or belt. At one end there is an ovoid lobe and at the other end a break which may not be old. The width increases from the lobe towards the break and front face is taken up by a trapezoidal cell containing traces of enamel which now appear very pale pinkish brown. On the rust-stained reverse a probably incomplete, integral, round-sectioned rivet projects from behind the frame of the enamelled. Behind a transverse rib next to the other end of the frame much of the stump of a second rivet has been removed by the drilling of a secondary hole next to the break. Extant length 26.2mm. Width 6.8mm. Thickness exclding rivets 2.3mm. No close parallel noted. 2nd - 3rd century.
