An early-medieval silver penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-66), PACX type dating to the period c.1042-4. with obverse type Pagan C. Minted by Brunwine and Stamford. North (1994. 179) No.814; Pagan (2011, 79) No. 411 and Hild 679.
Measurements: 17.5mm in diameter and 1.15g in weight
Discussion: This coin seems to be similar to that listed by Pagan (2011, 87) as no.814. The obverse of no.814 is listed as his type Ai, The example here however, with a cruder bust and heavily abbreviated obverse inscription (reading EDER/E REA) fits closer to Pagan's group C. Re-examining Pagan's (2011, 87) no. 814 it seems likely that the two dies shared an inscription though the portraits are slightly different. It seems probable No.814 should also be group C. Both do however appear to be reverse die-linked with each other as well as EMC 1054.0271.
