An incomplete copper alloy Roman skeumorphic plate brooch, c. AD 180-350. Plouviez Period Z.
The plate brooch has been cast in the form of a swastika (an equal-armed cross with the arms bent halfway at a right angle, oriented from the centre point). At the end of each arm are two incised grooves in a T shape, creating two small squares. The back of the plate is undecorated. The pin is missing, but the integral hinge fitting survives as does the catchplate, both of which project from the back of the plate at the bend of two opposite arms.
