An incomplete Roman military copper alloy pelta mount (c.AD 100-300). The 'front' of the item is slightly raised in comparison to the flattened 'back'. It is badly corroded, but there is no evidence of any attachment scars or fittings. While this item is similar to horse fittings (e.g. Nicolay type A11), the absence of attachment fittings suggest such items were vessel mounts (Edwin Wood, pers. comm.).
