An incomplete copper alloy stud of probable Roman date. It has a plano-convex head which is circular in plan and sub-semi-circular in section, with a flattened base. An integral shaft of circular section projects from the base. It has a slight taper and terminates in what is probably an old break.
Diameter (head): 10.8mm (max). Thickness (head): 7.2mm. Diameter (shaft): 4.8mm (max). Overall Length: 16.2mm. Weight: 4.04g.
Notes:
Similar globular headed examples are depicted in Crummy 1981: page 115, fig 116 and are described as being almost certainly from furniture upholstery.
