Abraded fragment of a Late Saxon copper alloy openwork strap end of Thomas 2004, Class E, Type 2. The breaks are not recent. Two truncate a pair of rivet holes at the attachment edge which is recessed for a separate bar. Only the convex face of a human figure has survived, with the eyes and mouth visible below what three grooves which may represent hair or a headdress. Two round apertures (one partly blocked by cemented soil) are extant while parts of two others have been removed by breaks along with the chin of the figure. The reverse is flat except behind the face where there is a pronounced concavity. Weight 6.7g. Extant length 21.9mm. Width 23.6mm. Thickness 4.7mm. 11th century.
