TREASURE CASE : 2021 T977
A complete gold and glass or gemstone finger ring of Medieval date, c. AD 1200-1400. The hoop of the ring is sub-circular, having been bent out of shape. The hoop is lentoid shaped in section and widens to a trapezoidal bezel. The bezel is set with a trapezoidal cabochon-cut black gemstone or glass within a gold collar. The shoulders of the band of the finger ring are each decorated with three evenly spaced chevron lines, pointing away from the bezel. From each of these lines radiates seven perpendicular incised grooves, also pointing away from the bezel. The inside of the band is undecorated.

Discussion:
Similar finger rings have been recorded on the PAS database as Treasure, and have been dated to the 13th-14th centuries. The closest parallels are NLM-0031AF (2014 T480), LVPL-BDC0C3 (2014 T675), and DENO-D5FCBA (2017 T216).
Conclusion:
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
