A complete Medieval copper alloy annular buckle dated c.AD1250-1450.

The plain frame is oval in cross section. The pin is rectangular in section with a curved hook at one end which wraps around the frame. The pin is decorated with a raised rectangular moulding with three transverse grooves on the upper surface just below the hook. There are diagonal file marks along the side of the pin. The buckle has a glossy mid brown patina. 

Measurements: diameter of frame: 40.81mm; width of frame: 4.30mm; thickness of frame: 3.30mm; length of pin: 45.68mm; width of pin: 402mm to 254mm at tip; thickness of pin: 5.13mm at moulding. Total weight: 12.34g.

Comparable examples are published in Whitehead, 1996, page 17 and Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, (2007) Plate 13, Nos: 430 & 432. Another example on the PAS database is: IOW-13B7B1 and often only the pin survives as in  DENO-C4F145
