Copper alloy probable stirrup mount, Williams Class A Type 1. Cast plate, resembling a cowhide in its form with the addition of a rounded apical loop with a drilled hole of diameter 4mm, and with two pairs of opposed spurs on its sides, and two rounded notches on its lower edge. The form and size resemble that of an Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup mount, but the face of the plate is entirely plain while there is no evidence for a basal flange. A rust stain passes along the base on the back. The object does, however, exhibit a slight curvature when viewed in profile. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 1000-1100
