Medieval copper-alloy spur buckle with integral plate. It tapers in width from the outside edge of the frame to the opposite tip of the plate. The frame is D-shaped (flat outside edge) and almost plano-convex in cross-section (more or less flat internally). There is a very short, rectangular-cross-sectioned element projecting outward, not centrally, from the outside edge.
On the plate, just beyond the inside edge of the frame, there is a sub-circular element, which is convex at the sides and concave on the reverse. It is perforated and currently has a short piece of iron protruding forwards from it, which is perhaps a remnant of the pin. Beyond this, the proximal (or attachment) end of the plate is lentoid when viewed from the front and plano-convex in cross-section. There is an integral circular-cross-sectioned rivet projecting from the reverse.
Similar to Whitehead (2003) No. 193. A good parallel on this database is SUSS-3F54B8. Mid-13th to 14th century.
Length: 29.7mm. Width: 12.9mm. Thickness (excluding iron protrusion and rivet): 3.0mm, (excluding iron protrusion, including rivet): 7.0mm. Weight: 2.7g.
