A copper alloy finger ring of early Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) date. The finger ring is 22.5mm in maximum diameter and is composed of two plain circular-sectioned rods twisted together into a crescent shaped hoop which is open at the rear. The rods taper in diameter from a maximum of 3.2mm down towards their ends which are hammered together to form tapering points. The internal diameter is 17.6mm, but the hoop has been bent and distorted.
Notes:
This ring is of a late Viking type dating to the 10th and 11th centuries, possibly into the early 12th century in Scandinavia. Similar rings have been recorded on this database, including examples in gold (i.e. WAW-0C7587; 2016 T146), and silver (PUBLIC-886017, 2017 T4).
